For the month of July, birchbox matched their theme to Glamour magazines and celebrated the five senses. I'm all about using beauty products to engage my senses, so this box was a hit with me.
I recieved the following:
For sight (because they're pretty?) Boscia green tea blotting linens. I actually have a pack of 100 of these that I bought once during a sephora sale. Either my face doesn;t get oily or I just don't register it. Still, they're pretty and they do a good job of mopping up sweat which is what I've decided to use them for. Getting 25 from birchbox has inspired me to finish off that original 100. Someday, someday.
Also for sight (because it's near the eyes?) Eyeko liquid liner in olive. This is my favorite item from this month's box and maybe my favorite from any birchbox I've received yet. I'd never used liquid liner before this, since getting the hang of lining my upper lid with pencil and powder has been challenge enough. However lately I've getting confident with the other two, so this came just at the right time. It's also in olive, which I find particualry flattering to my eyes and coloring (urban decay's 24/7 pencil in stash is one of my essentials). So I approached this with optimism. In reality the "olive" is much more like "greenish black" or "slightly less dark black that maybe has a tint of green" (though I think the color may be lightening as I use it up). I like this since the darkness of the color gives more impact on the eyes but it's still way more forgiving than a full on black. I can layer it to darker color-which almost always happens since my application is still none too skillful. Also, this formula does not smudge. As in, I draw a line on my hand, rub it immediately after, and the line does not smudge. Perfect for sweltering summer. I would totally purchase a full size, but I'm pretty sure this already is a full size.
For smell: Oscar de la Renta Live in Love. I really, really like the name of this one. As for the scent I found it a pleasant, floral but grounded. On the other hand I don't find it particularly exciting. So I will happily use up my sample but I won't spring for the full size.
For feel: Jouer's luminizing moisture tint in golden. This is one case where I wish the sample was a little bigger. I've been so worried about using this one up, that I don't know if I've really gotten a feel for the product. That said, it hasn't broken me out, the color matched well (though I keep thinking I should go for a lighter shade) or maybe it was sheer enough that being slightly off didn't matter. Both times I wore it, it was comfortable and no one told me I looked like an oompa loompa. If that's not success, what is?
For taste: uber by larabar in cherry cobbler. While this did not taste much like a cherry cobbler, I did like this food bar quite a bit. It was salty and sweet and crunchy, which my book means satisfying. It doesn't fill the same place as say, a cookie or a cupcake or any of the other sweets I crave, but it does make a nice snack to tide me over when I've forgotten to eat breakfast or accidentally made too little other food. I fully intend to keep these stocked in my desk.
For sound: neon earbuds. Mine came in hot pink and neon green, colors I remember fondly from the 90s. The sound quality isn't all that great, but I like the bright colors and it's nice to have something to mix it up with and give my regular earbuds a break from the harsh environs of my purse.
